Will my health insurance cover the cost of counselling?
Many insurance providers cover all or a portion of the cost of counselling sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, or a Clinical Counsellor under the supervision of a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Every plan is different, however, and as such, we encourage all clients to reach out to their provider to find out the specifications of their plan. If you do have coverage for counselling sessions, a receipt will be provided after payment that can be submitted to your provider for reimbursement. We do not offer direct billing.
Is therapy confidential?
Counselling is strictly confidential. No information that you disclose to us in counselling will be shared with anyone else without your permission. However, there are some exceptions to this rule as required by law. These circumstances are rare and will be discussed in our initial session.
How can I pay for my counselling session?
We currently accept payment through Interact E-transfer and all major credit cards. If paying by E-transfer, we ask that all payments be sent to the e-mail provided by your counsellor within 24hrs. If paying by credit card, we ask that clients securely store a credit card on file, which can be used to automatically process payment after each session. Following receipt of payment, clients will be provided with a detailed invoice for their records.
What is your cancellation policy? Will I be charged for cancelling a session?
We have a 24hr cancellation policy, meaning that any session can be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24hrs before the time of the appointment. You can easily access your account page to cancel or reschedule prior to 24hrs. If a session is cancelled within 24hrs of your appointment, there will be no cancellation fee. However, if less than 24hrs notice of a cancellation is provided, or in the case of a no-show, the cost of the session will be charged in full. Considerations may be made in the case of an emergency and will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
It is my first time to counselling, what if I am nervous and don’t know what to talk about?
It is completely normal and very common to feel nervous about a first counselling session. We like to remind our clients that they are in the driver’s seat, and we, as counsellors, are in the passenger seat, meaning that there are no obligations, and we will go at your own pace. During a first counselling session, we will complete an intake together and your counsellor will ask a variety of questions that will provide some guidance. Any questions you may have can be answered at this time, or at any point throughout counselling. Ultimately, in the first session, your counsellor wants to help you feel as comfortable as possible and get to know you better!
How many sessions will I need?
The length of time you wish to spend in therapy will depend on your unique needs and goals. We offer both short-term solution-focused therapy for issues that may be resolved in a few (less than six) sessions, as well as longer-term options for clients whose concerns are more complex, deep-rooted, or chronic. We will work collaboratively with you to help you develop your counselling goals.
Will I benefit from meeting with a counsellor?
The short answer is yes. As with all things, there are no absolute guarantees. Counselling is not a magic cure and there is generally no quick fix to any of life’s concerns and problems. The collaboration of counsellor and client has the power to truly be life-changing. That being said, this will take some work on your part as the client, but do not worry, we are in this together and will be there every step of the way.
It is more convenient for me to do sessions from home, do you offer options aside from in-person sessions?
Yes, absolutely. These days we recognize that it can be tough to make it to an in-person session, so we offer the convenience of both online and phone counselling sessions. If you have booked an online session, you will receive a link to the Jane online platform 1hr before your session begins. Please make sure that you have access to a computer with a camera and microphone. If you have booked a phone session, one of our counsellors will call you on the number provided at the time of your session.
What is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)?
Counsellors who are members of the BCACC are given the designation Registered Clinical Counsellor, or RCC. RCC’s have completed rigorous academic training at the graduate (Master’s degree) level, as well as clinical internships with supervision. They are accountable to the BCACC and the public through a Code of Ethical Conduct and Standards of Clinical Practice, and through complaints, investigations, and discipline procedures. See www.bc-counsellors.org for more information.
How long is the session?
Each counselling session is 50 min or 120 min.
